Cesena Remembers  ·  Last updated: October 26, 2026

1. Introduction and controller

Cesena Remembers is a digital guide to historical places in Cesena, with guided tours, quizzes, progress tracking and social features. This notice describes the information processed by the mobile app and the project website at cesenaremembers.pages.dev.

The project can be contacted at [email protected]. The person or organisation legally responsible for the service should be identified by the project operator before public distribution.

2. Data processed

3. Purposes and legal bases

Data is used to sign users in, maintain profiles, display tours and maps, generate quizzes, calculate progress, provide friend features, send notifications, troubleshoot errors and protect the service from misuse.

Depending on the feature and applicable law, processing is based on providing the requested service, a user's permission for optional device features such as location or notifications, the operator's legitimate interests in security and reliability, or compliance with legal obligations. Device permissions can be changed in the operating system settings.

4. Location and maps

The app uses location while a guided tour is active so it can calculate distance to the next historical place and detect arrival on the device. Location permission is required for this feature; the tour can be stopped at any time.

When the app requests a walking route, the origin and destination coordinates are sent to the Mapbox Directions API. Map tiles may be requested from Carto, Stadia Maps or Esri ArcGIS depending on the selected map style. These providers receive the information necessary to serve map tiles or route directions, as well as ordinary network request metadata.

5. Service providers and sharing

Cesena Remembers does not sell personal data. Data may be processed by the following providers when the related feature is used:

Providers process data under their own service terms and privacy documentation. Data may be processed in countries outside the European Economic Area; where required, the operator must ensure an appropriate transfer mechanism. Information may also be disclosed where required by law or necessary to protect the service and its users.

6. Website cookies and local storage

The app stores some settings, including the selected language, on the device. Pending quiz completions may also be stored locally when Firestore is unavailable; they are retained so they can be synchronised when connectivity returns.

The website source included with the project does not integrate Google Analytics. The website loads Google Fonts, which causes the browser to contact Google to retrieve font resources. The hosting provider may process technical logs as part of delivering the website. Browser cookie controls can be used to manage cookies set by the website or its providers.

7. Retention and deletion

Account and progress data is retained while needed to provide the service and manage the account, subject to applicable legal requirements. Local pending quiz results remain on the device until synchronised or until the app's local data is cleared. Service providers may retain technical logs according to their own policies.

To request access, correction or deletion of account data, contact [email protected]. Requests may require verification that the requester controls the account.

8. Your privacy rights

Where the GDPR applies, you may have the right to request access, correction, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability, or to object to certain processing. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw consent without affecting processing carried out before withdrawal. You may also lodge a complaint with your competent data-protection supervisory authority.

Contact [email protected] to exercise a right or ask a question about this notice.

9. Children and younger users

Cesena Remembers may be used in educational contexts. Users who are minors should use the service with the guidance of a parent, guardian or educator where appropriate. The project operator should ensure that its account, consent and data-retention practices meet the rules applicable to its audience and jurisdiction.

10. Security

The project uses third-party services and access controls intended to protect data. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Users should protect access to their device and account and contact the project if they suspect unauthorised use.

11. Changes to this policy

This notice may be updated when the app, its providers or applicable requirements change. The latest version and revision date will be published on this page.
